It was meant to be just another routine trip. But for Shantoya Robinson, the destination quickly became secondary to the company. Immediately enchanted by Johvaun Sergeant, she knew this wasn’t just any taxi ride.

On April 28, 2022, Shantoya shared a taxi ride with Johvaun. For her, it was love at first sight. “I noticed him straight away — he was incredibly handsome. I knew I couldn’t let the moment pass, so I found the nerve to ask for his number before my stop. Not long after, I told him he’d truly made an impression on me,” Shantoya reminisced to Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

A four-month whirlwind of shared secrets and dreams culminated in romance. While Johvaun was initially struck by her beauty, it was her sincerity during a moment of crisis that captured his heart.

“Shantoya wasn’t feeling well and asked me to pick her up from work early. On our way home we met in a car accident. Rather than arranging for an alternate ride home, she stayed with me through every gruelling second, physically holding my car door shut,” Johvaun said. “In that moment, I knew she was the one for me.”

That dedication and trust paved the way for a truly magical moment on 22 August 2024, when Johvaun proposed.

“He knows I’m more of a low-key type of girl and I don’t like crowd so he picked me up one night and brought me to the Skyline Lookout. I was led out the car. He kept my hands in his under the night sky, told me he loved me more than he had ever loved anyone else…he spoke to my support of him, how I had made him a better man,” Shantoya said.

“He then popped the question going on one knee. My response was immediate, and an emphatic Yes! Without a doubt in my mind I knew I wanted to be his wife.”

The Lavish Palm in Kingston provided the ideal backdrop for the couple’s nuptials that took place on December 19, 2025.

Shantoya made a beautiful bride in an off-the-shoulder Missacc ball gown as she made her entrance to the strains of Matrimony by Wale. She was escorted by her father, Andrew Robinson. Pastor Shane O’Conner officiated the ceremony.

The exchange of vows transitioned seamlessly into the reception where the happy couple was feted by a spirited round of toasts from family and friends.

The formalities continued with the cutting of their wedding cake by The Lavish Palm, and the first dance as newly-weds to Summer Walker’s Finally Over It.

The newly-weds are set to honeymoon in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, later this year.
