ST ANN, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for  St Ann South East Dr Kenneth Russell, has expressed deep concern following reports of a police operation in Steerfield, near Golden Grove, which resulted in the deaths of two young men, Ramone and Davian Henry.

Russell extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and to the wider Steerfield and Golden Grove communities, noting the grief and distress now being experienced.

“Any loss of life under these circumstances is tragic, and the concerns being raised by residents make this situation even more troubling,” Russell stated.

According to reports from members of the community, the two young men were in their homes at the time of the incident. Residents have strongly disputed claims of a shootout, maintaining that there was no immediate threat posed to the police.  Russell noted that these accounts, if substantiated, would point to serious concerns regarding the use of force.

Videos of the reported interaction following the shooting have been shared on social media showing a scuffle between residents and police.

Russell welcomed the intervention of the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom), which has launched an investigation into the matter, and emphasised the importance of a thorough and impartial process.

“The facts must be carefully established, and accountability must follow wherever the evidence leads. The public must have confidence that incidents such as these are handled with transparency and integrity,” he said.

While urging residents to remain calm, Russell reaffirmed his support for the community’s call for answers and justice.

“This is a difficult time for the community, and their concerns deserve to be taken seriously. There must be a full and transparent accounting of what took place.”

Russell stressed that how this matter is handled will be critical, noting that the country cannot afford any erosion of trust between citizens and those sworn to protect them.
