LOVE UNEXPECTED

They say the best love stories begin unexpectedly. For administrative assistant Chris Ann Anderson and inventory officer and pastry chef Rickardo McDonald, a journey that began with a mutual friend’s thoughtful introduction — evolved into a lifelong commitment, culminating in their nuptials on December 21, 2025 in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

It was November 2022 when Chris-Ann and Rickardo first crossed paths at her goddaughter’s birthday party. Romance may not have been on her agenda, but she immediately caught the eye of Rickardo.

“I found it strange, that this guy kept staring at me. I thought he was a player because he had arrived with what looked like his partner. But I learnt later that she was not and they didn’t even arrive together, they just walked through the door together,” Chris Ann told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

The night soon evolved into a lively dance session, where Rickardo’s skills left Chris Ann charmed. After an evening filled with shared laughter, it was a mutual friend, Danique Hamilton, who finally bridged the gap and brought them together.

“She told me, ‘Rickardo is my friend and he’s a great guy; I’m going to set you two up.’ But I stood my ground and said ‘No, girl, that’s really not why I came over here!’” Undeterred, Hamilton took matters into her own hands, dispatching Rickardo’s number to Chris Ann and passing hers along to him in return. “I tried to stop it, but this girl was already not listening to me! But less than 24 hours later, I received my first text from him and the rest is history,” Chris Ann said.

A month of spirited conversation followed that first message, laying the groundwork for their first date. Rickardo was quickly captivated by her drive and sincerity, qualities that confirmed he had encountered a woman of substance.

“During that time, we both got to know each other, as transparency was key to each conversation. She was genuine and knew what she wanted. That was attractive to me,” Rickardo said. They would begin their relationship soon after.

“She was the first woman who truly left me in awe regarding self-worth; she confidently told me, without hesitation, that she considers herself extraordinary. Over time, I have seen those words come to life through her actions and achievements,” Rickardo shared with TSV. “Inspired by her unwavering confidence, I decided that she will not be leaving my side, nor will I give her any reason to slip away.”

He wasn’t about to lose her. Instead, he chose the first day of 2025 to commit his future, by proposing to Chris Ann.

“It was at the end of my family’s reunion and he had his brother stop by to ‘drop off’ something he had ‘accidentally left’. When we walked up to the vehicle, the trunk opened with music, decorated with lights and lots of chrysanthemums. When I turned around, I found Rickardo, on one knee, in the streets. I was in shock!” Chris Ann said. “I was looking around wondering ‘Am I the only one seeing this?’ Little did I know that in the nearby bushes were some very close friends and even family that knew and went ‘missing’ from the party earlier, awaiting my answer. When I said yes, people started popping out from everywhere screaming. It was intimate and warm. It was very me! How could I not say yes to that?”

It was the perfect prelude to their wedding at a friend’s home in Old Harbour, 11 months later. Leslie’s Bliss Décor transformed the space into a garden-themed haven, perfectly reflecting the importance of the occasion for the couple and their loved ones.

“To see close friends and family beam around us as they did, sharing in our joy, was heartwarming,” Chris Ann said.

Dressed in a crisp white tuxedo, Rickardo watched as Chris Ann made her entrance in a stunning ivory A-line dress by Exquisite Bridal and Design. Escorted by her stepfather, Michael Williams, she made her way up the aisle to This Is Why I Love You by Major, played by saxophonist Chavel Stewart. The ceremony, officiated by Pastor Ashley Morgan and Bishop Otis D Malcolm, was a poignant affair. By the time vows were exchanged, the room was filled with tears of joy.

The celebration shifted to the reception, marked by a sumptuous dinner prepared by Carlie Wynter. Following heartfelt tributes from loved ones, the newly-weds cut their two-tiered vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry cake, handmade by Rickardo.

The floor was then cleared for Rickardo and Chris Ann’s first dance. The couple glided through a romantic fusion of Bill Withers’ Just The Two Of Us and Lauryn Hill’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, before ending with Marc Anthony’s Vivir Mi Vida — a vibrant finale that left the couple with memories to cherish.

Chris Ann and Rickardo will honeymoon at a later date.
