KC part ways with Vassell Reynolds
Kingston College (KC) have parted ways with technical director Vassell Reynolds while promoting Under-16 coach Jermaine Miller to take charge of the Under-19s for the upcoming season.
Reynolds took over at KC in 2023 when the school’s football programme was in shambles with a reported 16 players leaving for other institutions.
Still, he led a depleted unit to the semi-finals of both the Manning Cup and Champions Cup competitions in his first season and, against the odds in his second year, he propelled KC to the Manning Cup and all-island Olivier Shield titles in 2024.
In the third and final year of his contract, KC were eliminated in the second round of the Manning Cup and fell into the less heralded Walker Cup, where they lost in the semi-final.
Reynolds is one of the most successful coaches in schoolboy football, having also won the daCosta Cup with Ruseas High in 2017; the 2007 U16 All-Island title with Wolmer’s; and the 2015 Walker Cup and the 2016 Flow Cup titles, also with Wolmer’s. Reynolds also took Hydel High to their first Manning Cup final in 2012.
He is currently the National Under-17 assistant coach and will be at the FIFA World Cup in November. He is also the head coach of the National Under-15.
But Observer sources revealed that while the management staff at KC were not impressed with Reynolds, they were with Under-16 coach Miller who they said played attractive football en route to the final, where they lost to Jamaica College.
Miller, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, played at his alma mater, Morant Bay High, and a number of Premier League clubs including Harbour View, Waterhouse, Arnett Gardens, Yallahs FC and Rivoli United.
He started coaching in 2011, served as assistant coach at St Jago and was at the helm of St Catherine High in 2015. He was appointed in 2023 as Reynolds’ assistant head coach.
