Commish welcomes sentencing of former cop for murder
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following Monday’s sentencing of former policeman, Lescene Edwards for murder, Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington is congratulating investigators and prosecutors who worked on the case.
Edwards was sentenced to life in prison for the 2003 gun slaying of his girlfriend Aldonna Harris.
“Although the result is cold comfort to the victim’s family, it brings some measure of closure to this ruthless murder that happened just over 10 years ago. Thanks to the jury for the service they gave to their country during the trial,” said Ellington.
The Commissioner added that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) family “is honoured to have contributed to whatever measure of relief the result brings”.
Edwards was ordered to serve 35 years before being eligible for parole.
