Escaped murder convict shot dead by police
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An escaped murder convict who had been terrorising residents of Mount James in the St Andrew hills for the past two years was shot dead this morning by the police in that area.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area Five Derrick Knight confirmed that Omar Creary was shot in a firefight with the police.
“A pistol and several rounds of ammunation were taken from him,” Knight told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Creary was serving a life sentence for the murder of Senior Superintendent of Police Albert Richards when he escaped from Horizon Adult Remand Correctional Centre in April 2014.
Some months ago, the police told OBSERVER ONLINE that they had made at least three attempts to capture Creary, but he eluded them, as he was very familiar with the hilly terrain of the rural St Andrew community where he had been wreaking havoc.
He was also being alerted to the arrival of the police by cronies in Golden Spring.
