Ex-bank employee busted for fake CXCs after engaging in fraud at work
A former bank employee who used a fake Caribbean Examination Council preliminary slip to land a customer service post at Victoria Mutual Building Society is to be sentenced in court on August 13.
Daniel Nelson, 28, of Kitson Town, purported that he had grade one passes in information technology and principles of business and grade two passes in biology, mathematics and principles of accounts.
However, he later lost the job after he was sent on investigatory leave for being involved in a fraudulent transaction at work.
According to the police, Nelson landed a permanent job at the financial institution in 2007, after he was initially employed as a temporary worker.
However, in 2012 he was sent home on investigatory leave after he was implicated in a fraudulent transaction. During the investigation, background checks were done and it was discovered that a preliminary examination slip that he had submitted during his application process was forged.
Nelson was then arrested and charged with forgery and uttering forged documents.
Last Thursday when he appeared in court, Nelson pleaded guilty to the charges, but the sentence was postponed to have his lawyer, who was absent, present during the sentencing hearing.
Nelson’s bail was subsequently extended.
