Four men arrested as police seize five illegal firearms
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police are reporting the arrest of four men in connection with separate firearm seizures, over a three-day period.
On Thursday, December 25 a Lorcin .38 pistol and three .22 rounds of ammunition, were reportedly handed over to the Ocho Rios Police, after an altercation between two men about 7:00 am at a hotel in St Ann. One of the men is now in police custody.
Meanwhile, the Papine Police were on operation about 3:00 pm Friday, December 26 in Hope Flats, Kingston when a man was seen who the say aroused their suspicion. The man was accosted, searched and a .38 revolver was found in his waistband. He was subsequently arrested.
Hours later, another team of officers seized a .45 pistol and six rounds of ammunition during a stop and search exercise on Tryall main road in Hanover about 6:00 pm.
It has been reported that the driver of a mini-bus complied when signalled to stop and a search of the vehicle and it’s passengers was conducted. The weapon was found in a bag carried by one of the passengers who was then arrested.
On Saturday, December 27 lawmen attached to the Stony Hill Police Station were on patrol on Skele Road in St Andrew about 1:00 am, when a man ran, on seeing the officers, and allegedly threw an object into bushes.
A search of the area revealed a Heckler and Koch pistol. The man, however, managed to escape.
Minutes later, the Elletson Road Police were carrying out duties on Balcon Avenue, Kingston 17 about 1:15 am, when a man was accosted, searched and a .38 revolver with six .38 cartridges was seized. He was subsequently arrested.
