Judge orders release of Vybz Kartel tapes to defence
JUSTICE Marjorie Cole Smith yesterday ordered the prosecution to release to Vybz Kartel’s attorneys, tapes of the electronic recordings implicating the dancehall entertainer in the alleged murder of Clive Williams last August.
The instruction was issued by the judge yesterday after one of the entertainer’s attorney Valerie Neita-Robertson, informed the Home Circuit Court that she has not yet received a copy of the audio and video recordings and was unable to make a bail application on behalf of her client.
The artiste, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was then remanded into custody along with his co-accused entertainer Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Andre St John, Kahira Jones, and Shane Williams, while Calvin Hay had his bail extended. The men are to return to court April 27.
Williams is alleged to have been murdered on August 16 over the disappearance of an illegal firearm. His body is yet to be found. The prosecution, however, said they have video and other evidence to prove the murder.
Kartel is also scheduled to return to court on the said date in relation to the death of Barrington ‘Bossie’ Bryan, who was reportedly shot dead while standing among a group of persons in Gregory Park, St Catherine, in July last year. Kartel is charged along with Nigel Thompson and Lenburgh McDonald in that matter.
