KINGSTON, Jamaica – El Instituto de Mandevilla, based in Manchester, were on Saturday crowned the champions of the inaugural staging of the 2016 Nestlé Healthy Kids Primary/Preparatory School Badminton Championships at the Young Men’s Christian Academy (YMCA), after amassing 71 points.
Allman Town Primary finished a distant second with 35 points, while Hazard Primary and Belair Preparatory tied for third place on 32 points each.
David Thomas, Jamaica Badminton Association president, said the competition was a success.
“The staging of the first primary and preparatory school badminton championship was a success. Everyone – payers, coaches and spectators – all enjoyed themselves,” he said. “The players showed tremendous understanding of the game even at this early age.”
He also thanked Nestlé for their support.
“Having a badminton programme in primary and preparatory schools is the right way… to develop the sport in the country, and I must thank Nestlé for their commitment and support in making this possible,” Thomas said.
