Nominees in PM Youth Awards for Excellence announced

Observer’s Ainsworth Morris sole pick for journalism

KINGSTON, Jamaica –The Minister of Youth and Culture, Lisa Hanna has announced the nominees for the Prime Minister’s Youth Awards for Excellence. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Celebrating Jamaican Youth: The Courage of Perseverance’.

The Prime Minister’s Youth Awards for Excellence are presented to young Jamaicans between the ages of 15 and 24 for outstanding achievement in agriculture, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, international achievement, journalism, youth in service, leadership, sports and youth work (which is also awarded to organisations).

Forty-one people and organisations have been nominated for this year’s awards.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, will present the Awards on Sunday, April 6, in a ceremony at Jamaica House beginning at 6:00pm.

The public will be able to view the ceremony live on CVM TV, the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) and LOVE TV.

The full list of nominees are:

Academics: Nicholas Wright, Shoyea-Gaye Grant, Everett Moseley and Abigail Allen

Arts & Culture: Akeem Mignott, Kadeem Wilson, Christena Williams and Mandie Salmon

Journalism: Ainsworth Morris

Agriculture: Monique Grey

Entrepreneurship: Theo Smith and Andre Barnaby

International Achievement: Donia Fuller, Farley Artwell, Brittney Elliott-Williams, Gavin Samuels, John Powell and Kyisha Newman

Sports: Yanique Thompson, Thristina Harwood, Javon Francis, Martin Manley, Daniel Williams and Yvonne Foster

Youth Work: The National Inter-School Brigade, Youth Organisation for Upliftment and Tishauna Mullings

Youth in Service: Rochelle Campbell, Terral Christian, Trace-Ann Gooden, Bennetha Knowles, Kadesha Croney, Lamar Rowe, Seidg Rowe and Jamilia Crooks

Leadership: Tijani Christian, Joel Nomdarkham, Javanni Waugh, Amorkard Brown, Kemesha Kelly and Daniel Wilson
