Traffic changes for PNP Conference
Friday, September 14, 2012 | 6:18 PM
KINGSTON. Jamaica — The Police are warning people attending the People’s National Party (PNP) Conference on the weekend that strict security and traffic measures will be implemented.
The conference is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the National Arena.
No firearms, knives, drugs, ice picks, machetes, umbrellas (walking stick type), glass bottles or any other items that can be used to cause serious harm or injury, will be allowed inside the venue, the police said.
No vending is allowed outside of designated areas.
In addition, traffic changes have been implemented as follows:
• Arthur Wint Drive will be operated as a one-way, beginning at North Avenue. Additionally, the section of Arthur Wint Drive between the Bob Marley statue and the main entrance to the National Arena will be converted to a pedestrian-only zone.
• Therefore, motorists travelling to the National Arena from the direction of Tom Redcam Avenue who wish to access the parking area at the top of Arthur Wint Drive must turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue, then right onto Stanton Terrace, then right onto Mountain View Avenue then make their way down Arthur Wint Drive.
• Only vehicles conveying patrons will be allowed to turn from Mountain View Avenue onto Arthur Wint Drive. However, these vehicles will not be allowed to continue down Arthur Wint Drive, and must either park, or else make their way back onto Mountain View Avenue and out of the area.
• Members of the general public, including JUTC buses, will continue straight along Mountain View Avenue and will not be allowed to turn onto Arthur Wint Drive.
Motorists are being urged to follow the Road Traffic Act as it will be strictly enforced, the police said.
