Contestants sashed
The seven contestants in the Miss City of Montego Bay competition were sashed at the Caribbean showplace last Saturday.
They are Noelle Chantal, Amanda Colley, Marie Ricketts, Narda Malcolm, Ophelia Wisdom, Marsha McKenzie and Chamille Wollie. The contestants will re-appear next month at the Caribbean Showplace, when one of them will be crowned “Miss City of Montego Bay”.
The contest forms part of the ongoing celebrations in Montego Bay as the city continues to mark its 21st year of acquiring city status.
Others activities include football matches, cycle races, a ‘Jamaica nite’ and a city status domino tournament scheduled for the Coral Cliff Hotel, on Monday.
St James Youth & Student Festival
The fifth staging of the South St James Youth and Student Festival takes place today at the Maldon High School, St James.
The festival will highlight the various opportunities that exist for young people. It will also showcase an entertainment package, put on by the youth in St James.
Over 18 companies and agencies are also expected to stage EXPO’s disclosing training and employment opportunities.
Entertainers Jah Creation, Ticka and Black Ninja will add flavour to the day’s event.
Pier Madness Tonight
Popular deejay, Bounty Killer performs at Pier One in Montego Bay tonight, in a production dubbed ‘Pier Madness’.
Wayne Marshall, Alley Cat, Assasin and Raegan will share the stage with the ‘Killer’, while music will be provided by Electro Force and Renaissance disco.
Admission is $500 and the show starts at 10:00 pm.
Nyammings & Jammins Food Festival
The Catherine Hall entertainment centre in Montego Bay comes alive on Monday, when the St
James 4-H Parish Advisory Council presents the inaugural staging of the ‘Nyammings & Jammins Food Festival’.
Activities are slated to begin at 10:00am and the event will highlight indigenous foods from across the parishes. This will be complemented by a lively entertainment package.
The FAB 5 band will head the entertainment package which includes Sister Scully, Praise Choir and traditional music.
Other activities include tambola, grab bag, horticultural displays, art and craft exhibitions and ring toss games.
Corn Fest at Wait-a-bit, next Monday
The inaugural staging of the Wait-a-bit Corn Festival takes place in the Trelawny community next Monday.
Activities will kick off at 10:00 pm with a street parade, while other activities planned include a culinary competition that will feature a wide variety of dishes made from corn. There will also be children’s games and displays from the major sponsors of the events and a local talent show highlighting the various talents in the area.
