Restricted access on Long Hill road
OVER the next three weeks, only large buses, trucks and articulated vehicles will be allowed to use a section along the Anchovy main road in St James.
The area between Reading and the Belmont intersection will be closed to all other types of vehicular traffic, which will be diverted through Walespond and Comfort Hall.
“Motorists travelling from Reading to Anchovy will be allowed passage, but should expect delays along the roadway,” said the National Works Agency (NWA) in a release.
The traffic changes, which came into effect on Monday, have been implemented to facilitate repairs being made to the road’s surface. The work is being done by contractors Lagan Surrey Construction Limited and is among the $3-billion worth of contracts already signed under the National Road Improvement Programme (NARIP).
NARIP, which has a total value of $6 billion, will also cover work slated to be done in the Maroon Town to Flamstead sections of St James, as well as the Flint River to Cascade, Cascade to Flower Hill sections of Hanover.
Surveys are now being done to determine the correct design of the additional work to be done in the western region.
“Some surveys are completed and what we need to do is to work on the design for the roads, to see what exactly is required and how we are going to go about implementing those,” the NWA said.
