MoBay prayer group honours tourism sector
THE Montego Bay Prayer Breakfast Group recently held its 15th annual prayer breakfast, and used the opportunity to pay tribute to a number of persons and organisations in the tourism industry.
Over the years the local group, which is affiliated with the Washington Prayer Breakfast Group, has given recognition to those who make significant contributions to the community and the organisation. Last year, they honoured the police force for its unrelenting fight against crime.
Heading this year’s list of honourees was hotelier Godfrey Dyer who owns The Wexford. He was recognised for the role he has played, over the years, in fostering the growth of tourism nationally. A past president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, Dyer currently serves as the chairman of the Montego Bay chapter of the JHTA.
The other honourees were Hazel Dalley, who is a well-known philanthropist and gift shop operator in the western city; veteran craft vendor Evelyn Darmand and the Montego Bay chapter of JUTA.
The Montego Bay prayer group also gave special recognition to Texaco Caribbean Inc, which has been its principal sponsor over the years, as well as The Wexford for providing accommodation for meetings.
“Particularly at this time when the nation is struggling against the odds of increasing violence and growing fear among its people, there is a need for all God-fearing people to seek guidance and protection through prayer,” said chairman of the Prayer Group and Montego Bay businessman, Donat Crichton.
According to him, the annual prayer breakfast is a non-denominational group that breaks down political barriers.
“We pray fervently for the community, the nation and any individual whose needs are brought to our attention,” he said.
