Negril guesthouse goes up in flames
WEST END NEGRIL — A two-bedroom guest -house at Iron Shore on the West End of Negril was destroyed by fire at about 11:15 am Tuesday. The cause of the fire, which was estimated to have caused $3 million in damages, is yet to be determined.
According to residents, the fire unit responded quickly but the largely wooden structure was reduced to ashes within minutes.
Reports are that the caretaker for the premises, 48 year-old Horatio Bent, noticed smoke coming from the roof of the Cool Lion guest-house and raised an alarm. But the quick response of neighbours and the fire unit proved futile.
“I heard the shout for fire but when I reached on the scene, I could only help to save the fridge. Everything else was destroyed,” said one man.
He added that after he recovered the appliance, the heat from the blaze made it impossible to save anything else.
The structure, which was owned by US resident Cynthia Tribelee, was not insured. There were no guests on property at the time of the fire.
