MoBay High old girls give back to their alma mater
DETERMINED to give back to their alma mater, 30 Montego Bay High School ‘old girls’ will present a cheque to the school next Sunday as part of a full schedule of events planned during their four-day reunion.
The full extent of their generosity will be determined after those living abroad arrive in the island Thursday.
“This reunion has been in the talking (stages) for years but after the events of September 11 in New York, the ‘girls’ got serious about mending broken fences, renewing friendships and being silly for a few days,” the group said in a press release.
“That means chatting for hours about our beloved English teacher, Muriel Crick; the stern yet lovable principal, Helen Lindsay; trips to the playfield on (the old school bus) Daisy and those wonderful singing lessons with music teacher, Mrs Lewis.”
The well-respected all-girl’s school has a long history of producing outstanding ladies.
Among those expected to participate in the upcoming reunion are:
* Former spelling bee champion and current Barbados-based attorney, Yvette Lemonias-Seale.
* Former journalist and now attorney-at-law, Sharon Barnes.
* Forensic analyst, Sherron Brydon
* Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College lecturer, Beverly Porteous.
* Montego Bay tourism player, Alda Richards-Hendricks.
* Legal librarian of New York, Angela Rose.
* Florida banker, Maureen Hayden-Carter.
* Guardian Life insurance agent, Marva Vernon.
* Doctors Grace Grant of Texas and Gwendolyn Thomas of St
Catherine.
* Pharmacist Diane Broadie-Sharpe.
* The Bank of Jamaica’s Hillary Kennedy-Robertson,
* as well as Mauvlette Haughton, and Angella Walters.
“Montego Bay High School has really produced some ladies who have made a contribution, who have made a mark. They are ladies, nothing short of that,” said a member of the organising committee, Sharon Barnes.
The ‘old girls’ will have dinner at the Coral Cliff Hotel and Gaming Lounge on Saturday and then present toe cheque during a tour of the school on Sunday.
Other events include attending a church service as well as trips to attractions such as Dunns River Falls.
