Jamaica names new envoys to UN, UK
AMBASSADOR Stafford Neil, permanent secretary in the foreign affairs ministry, has been appointed as Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), foreign minister K D Knight announced in Parliament yesterday.
Neil succeeds Patricia Durrant, whom Kofi Annan, the UN secretary-general, recently appointed as one of his deputies at the New York headquarters of the UN.
Knight also announced the appointment of Ambassador Maxine Roberts as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, replacing David Muirhead.
Roberts, now undersecretary for trade and maritime affairs, served before as High Commissioner to Canada.
In addition, Gail Mathurin, presently senior director of foreign trade, has been promoted to Ambassador for External Trade Negotiations.
All appointments are effective September 1.
