New 50-room Hotel, housing development for Spot Valley
WESTERN BUREAU — Spot Valley Development Company Limited (SVDCo) will by the end of this year begin a multi- billion dollar development project that will include the construction of a 50 -room hotel and housing for 2,000 families in the Spot Valley area of St James.
The project, which will be built on 600 acres of land, will also include a civic centre, playing-field, medical facility, schools and community centres, according to SVDCo, architect/ planner, Evan Williams.
“We are not going to only build houses, but we will be providing an economic and educational base for the residents of Spot Valley,” Williams told the monthly meeting of the St James Parish Council on Thursday.
“From that base, the surrounding communities of Zion, Palmyra, Barrett Town, Rose Hill and Cornwall,” will also benefit Williams added.
He noted that the Spot Valley community has a very rich historical background and could become one of the finest tourist attractions in the western part of the island.
The announcement of the project comes less than two months after Can-Cara Developments announced a $2.8 billion housing project for Irwin, St James.
Work on the Can-Cara project, which will involve the construction of 1,400 two-bedroom homes is expected to begin later this year.
In June, Gore Developments launched a $4 billion housing project to construct 1,600 houses in Montego Bay over the next four years- a move that will create a new village on the south- westerly outskirts of the city.
Construction of the houses began earlier this month and are being sold at a cost of $2.5 million.
