HEART Trust/NTA expo a success
WESTERN BUREAU — The HEART Trust /NTA exposition held at the Montego Bay Civic Centre on Tuesday, under the theme “training and entrepreneurship”, was a hit with the scores of persons who turned out to view the exhibits put on by the students.
“I think the expo is very exciting, I am impressed by all the exhibits and I think the students have done very well,” Donna Anderson, a home economics teacher at the Rusea’s High School told the Observer at the expo.
“The presentations by the students are excellent, especially the cake decorations, ” another teacher added.
Tuesday’s exposition formed part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the HEART Trust/NTA. Expositions have already been held in the three other regions to commemorate the milestone.
The HEART Trust/NTA is a statutory organisation with a mission to enable the provision of technical and vocational education in both the public and private sectors, so as to produce and sustain a competitive workforce consistent with the needs of the economy.
Institutions participating in the North West Regional Expo included Kenilworth Academy, Cornwall Automotive Training School, Granville and Seafood Town Vocational Training Centres, Caribbean Institute of Technology and Culloden Training Centre.
On show was a wide variety of cakes done by students of the Kenilworth Academy, items of furniture, web designing and e-commerce demonstrations by students of the Caribbean Institution of Technology, andcareer and hospitality demonstrations. Members of staff from the marketing arm of the HEART Trust/NTA were also on hand to give advice on career opportunities and the programmes that are offered by the organisation.
There was also a lively entertainment package, which featured recording artistes Abijah and Mackie Conscious.
Dr Judith Ricketts, the North West regional career and guidance counsellor at HEART/NTA, told the Observer that she was very pleased with the level of commendation that the expo received.
“We were very pleased with the amount of praises we got; everybody said that it was good,” Ricketts said. Some even said that they did not know that we were doing so much at HEART,” she added.
Several other persons who spoke with the Observer also said that they were impressed with the high standard of the exhibits.
“I did not know that they (HEART/NTA) had so much to offer,” one resident of Montego Bay said.
