Jamaican sentenced to two years in prison
CHRIST CHURCH, Barbados (AP) – A magistrate yesterday sentenced a Jamaican to two years in prison for attempting to import marijuana to Barbados, police said.
Delroy Alfred Reid, a 24 year-old from Kingston, pleaded guilty in Ostins Magistrate’s Court to charges of possession, intent to supply, and trafficking of nine pounds (four kilogrammes) of the drug, police spokesman Desmond Lyton said.
Police said they arrested Reid on Sunday at Grantley Adams International Airport when they discovered four packages of marijuana strapped to his body during a routine search.
The drugs were valued at Barbadian $60,800 (US$30,400), police said.
Reid had arrived on a flight from Jamaica. Police said they did not know his final destination.
