11th traffic death in St James
WESTERN BUREAU — St James’ death toll due to traffic accidents rose to 11 on Monday after Linval Grant died from injuries received when the car in which he was travelling overturned near Spring Gardens District in the parish.
The driver of the car, Kimani Ranking, was reportedly unconscious when he was removed from the vehicle and has been admitted to the Cornwall Hospital for treatment.
The police’s information officer for the parish, Corporal Lancelot Tyrell told the Observer Monday that the accident happened at about 3:30 am.
He said the men were travelling in a blue Toyota motor car registered 5098DR that was heading toward Montego Bay from Hopewell in Hanover.
The driver, the corporal said, reportedly lost control of the vehicle that later overturned.
Grant was reportedly thrown from the car and received multiple injuries to his body as a result.
He later died while undergoing treatment at hospital.
The incident brought to nine the number of traffic accidents in the parish since the start of the year.
