Goodyear awards scholarships, bursaries to 12 Seaview Gardens students
GOODYEAR Jamaica Ltd on Wednesday awarded two scholarships and 10 bursaries valued at $140,000 to needy students from Seaview Gardens, as part of the company’s education assistance programme.
The two scholarships, each valued at $20,000, were awarded to Seaview Gardens Primary School students, Sophia Bryan and Dwayne Campbell, both of whom attained the highest marks in the most recent GSAT examinations.
Sophia will attend Meadowbrook High School and Dwayne is going on to Kingston College.
The bursaries are valued at $10,000 each.
“We are expecting great things from everyone here,” said Peter Graham, general manager for Goodyear Jamaica Ltd.
“Don’t limit yourselves,” Graham advised the students, “set big goals and never lose sight of them. Goodyear has invested in you. Our expected return on this investment is good conduct in school, hard work and good grades.”
Since 2000 when Goodyear relocated its business offices to Spanish Town Road, the tyre company has taken an active role in developing young minds from Seaview Gardens and neighbouring communities.
Here, Goodyear’s treasury and accounting manager, Grace Lee, presents Carl Anthony Hines with his bursary which will assist him at Ardenne High School in Kingston.
The boy’s father, Carl Snr, shares the moment.
