Four remanded on cocaine charges
FOUR men who were arrested at the Sangster International Airport in connection with the seizure of over 640 pounds of cocaine are scheduled to return to court on December 15 when the case will again be mentioned.
Charged with conspiracy, possession of, dealing in and importing cocaine are:
* Oscar Jasso Serratos,
* Jose Alfredo Tecla,
* Hugo Hernandez Vazquez, and
* Arturo Romero, all of Venezuelan addresses.
They were remanded in custody when they last appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The four men, who are all Mexicans, were arrested after the contraband was discovered when the aircraft in which they were travelling stopped for refueling on the grounds of the Sangster International Airport.
They are represented by attorneys-at-law Tom Tavares-Finson and George Thomas.
On October 14 of this year, a twin-engine jet with four men aboard reportedly landed at the charter section of the Sangster International Airport in order to refuel. The aircraft, according to reports, originates from Venezuela and was on its way to Honduras.
The police reportedly got a tip before the aircraft landed and, as a result, the officers kept it under surveillance.
Narcotics agents later conducted a search and 647 pounds (294 kg) of cocaine, wrapped in brown masking tape, were reportedly found inside the aircraft. The four men were subsequently arrested and charged.
