Trio still not charged in Dunn’s River heist
OCHO RIOS, St Ann – The three men who were held in Ewarton, St Catherine in the aftermath of a $700,000, robbery at the Dunn’s River Park in St Ann on February 10, have still not been charged. Up to press time yesterday, they were still in police custody pending further investigations into the case.
The St Catherine police nabbed the trio about an hour after the robbery and, based on information given by eyewitnesses to the crime, one of the men fit the description of one of the robbers. The suspects were reportedly transported to a St Ann lock-up where they still remain.
Meanwhile, two security guards who were on duty at the time of the robbery were questioned and later released by the cops.
Shortly after 4:00 pm on February 10, two armed men and a woman held up the cashier at the Park and made off with the cash and two firearms belonging to security guards at the location. One guard was shot in the arm and was treated at hospital.
The police has released information on the revolvers taken from the guards. They are two .38 Taurus revolvers with serial numbers OK 357874 and QA 491415. The weapons were assigned to the Atlas security company, which is contracted by Dunn’s River Park to provide security for the facility.
Ironically, one of the two men involved in the robbery was reportedly dressed in an Atlas Security uniform while the woman was said to be clad in the uniform, of a popular tour company. The third person was in plain clothes.
The robbery has been condemned by the parish’s tourism industry players and the wider business community. The St Ann Chamber of Commerce said the incident represented another attack on the industry following a recent robbery in Negril.
