Success stories – Roll call of some disabled persons who are succeeding
. Monica Bartley, a paraplegic, is chairperson of the Combined Disabilities Association. She is also director of the Administrative Statistics Division at the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).
. Curtis Sweeney, who is blind, completed an MSc degree in Counselling Psychology at the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology. Sweeney works with the Grace and Staff Community Development Foundation.
. Dawn Malahoo, who is deaf, is the accounts payroll supervisor at Guardsman Ltd.
. Sarah Newman, a paraplegic swimmer and Olympian, manages the YMCA.
. Alphonso Cunningham got a gold medal at the Special Olympics in August 2004.
. Errol Williams is a coach at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre.
. Gloria Goffe, who is blind, did secretarial work at Deloitte and Touche for 25 years before taking up the post of coordinator of the Combined Disabilities Association earlier this year.
. Shana Parkes, aged 21, is a blind teacher at Balmagie Primary School.
. Ryan Gayle works in the accounts department at Guardian Life Insurance Company.
. Shirley Lee, who is deaf, has both a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees and is a teacher at the Lister Mair Gilby High School for the Deaf.
