Guyana gets more help
THE Florida-based First Data Western Union Foundation and Western Union Financial Services Inc, along with their authorised agent, Grace Kennedy Remittance Services, are contributing US$60,000 to aid flood victims in Guyana.
“Supporting the relief efforts in Guyana by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies allows us to assist individuals and families recover from the devastation of the floods and help them to rebuild their lives,” said Luella Chavez D’Angelo, president of the First Data Western Union Foundation.
The foundation has, in the meantime, called on other organisations to help relieve the suffering being experienced by the Guyanese people because of the floods.
In the final week of December last year, Guyana was devastated by heavy flood rains said to be the heaviest to hit the country in more than 100 years.
