11-member committee to support Education Transformation Team
THE education minister, Maxine Henry-Wilson, last week named an 11-member advisory committee, chaired by Dr Rae Davis, who headed the National Task Force on Education, to support the work of the newly established Education Transformation Team.
At the inaugural meeting of the advisory committee, held at the Cabinet Office last Wednesday, the minister said that the committee would provide overall guidance to the Education Transformation Team which would “incorporate the changes at the education ministry and supporting institution into the day-to-day operations of the education system.
“The monitoring role of the committee is critical,” the minister said, noting that “there was need to sign off on funding and take proactive action as necessary”.
She also expressed confidence in the members of the committee, stating that several members had contributed to the work of the national task force, and were therefore “conversant with the recommendations for change in the education sector”.
Other members of the Committee, which includes three student representatives, are:
. Dr Carlton Davis, Cabinet secretary;
. Elaine Foster Allen, National Task Force on Education;
. John Messam, parent representative;
. Dr Maureen Samms-Vaughan, chairman of the Early Childhood Commission;
. Jacqueline Lucie Smith, acting permanent secretary, Ministry of Education; and the students,
. Karida Cox, Tacky High School;
. Diego Morris, University of the West Indies; and
. Godfrey Drummond, G C Foster College.
