Fire at CPTC
A fire that broke out last night in a section of the main studio of the Creative Production and Training Centre (CPTC) destroyed carpeting, screens and a few props.
According to district officer for the Trench Town Fire Station Jacinto Thompson, the fire started in the studio located on the ground floor of the building a little after 6:00 pm.
However, he said that the firefighters faced a number of challenges as they did not have breathing apparatus and so they had to call the York Park and Half-Way-Tree fire stations to assist them. It took them about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
“We also didn’t have good lighting,” added Sergeant Horace Thomas who is also from the Trench Town Fire Station.
In the meantime, CPTC chairman Hopeton Dunn said there were approximately 12 employees in the building at the time of the fire. He also said attempts by staff members to put out the fire with extinguishers failed.
