Jamaican wanted for murder in US held on arrival in island
A Jamaican man wanted in the United States for murder has been convicted in the local court for uttering forged documents when he arrived in the island from Baltimore.
He is now facing extradition charges.
The man, Neville Dion Smith, 39, also known as “Kenneth Miller” and “Sea Head”, from Old Harbour, St Catherine, was living at 3125 Wayne Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
According to the police, on Wednesday, August 17, Smith arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in the name of Kenneth Miller, aged 42. He was, however, apprehended by investigators from the Fugitive Apprehension Team for using an assumed name.
Smith, said the police, was wanted in Guild Ford County, USA, for the murder of his wife, Rhonda Roane Smith, who was killed at about 11:30 on the morning of July 7.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the woman’s body was found near the side of a road in High Point, North Carolina. Her car and cellular phone were discovered missing. An autopsy revealed that death was due to strangulation.
The Smiths, the CCN said, were scheduled for a domestic relations court hearing on July 8.
“Following investigations, cellular phone records revealed that Mr Smith was in High Point, North Carolina at or near the time of his wife’s death. It was also borne out that he had used his wife cell phone after her death,” said the CCN.
