Barnes Avenue vigil
Kimone Guthrie, the mother of murder victim Sasha-Kaye Brown (inset), and Sasha’s brother, Kimar Palmer, hold candles in memory of the 10-year-old, who died with her grandparents and aunt when gang members fire-bonbed their home on barnes Avenue, in a reprisal attack.
More than 400 people took part in a candle light vigil, spearheaded by Nationwide News Network, at the intersection of Barnes Avenue and Maxfield Avenue, protected by scores of police and soldiers. The names of the 70 children murdered up to September 30 were read and a minute’s silence observed, during which lights were turned off and a dazzling array of lit candles were held high.
