Traffic changes downtown for Crawle trial
Traffic changes are being made to sections of downtown Kingston this morning as the high-profile Crawle Murder Trial opens at the Supreme Court.
The traffic changes, the police said, will take effect at 6:00 am with the closure to the public of the following intersections:
. Barry and King streets;
. King and Tower streets;
. Temp Lane and Tower Street;
. Church and Barry streets; and
. Barry and Tower streets.
Police will be posted at the affected intersections, the Constabulary Communication Network said.
Seven cops are charged in connection with the May 2003 killings of four persons, including two women, in Crawle, Clarendon.
The accused are:
Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams, who led the controvesial Crime Management Unit (CMU);
. Devon Bernard;
. Latrid Gordon;
. Roderick Collier;
. Shane Lyons;
. Patrick Coke;
. David Ballen; and
. Terrence Tingling
At the time of the incident, Adams claimed that his controversial CMU had gone to Crawle to investigate reports of extortion when they came under fire.
However, residents of the community vehemently rejected the CMU’s account of the events, insisting that the victims were executed by indiscriminate shooting.
