Cop shot at service station in October dies in hospital
SPECIAL Constable Michael Hamilton, who was shot during an attempted robbery at a service station on Half-Way-Tree Road in Kingston on October 12, died in hospital Wednesday.
Hamilton, who was stationed at Harman Barracks in Kingston, was in an office at the gas station at about 3:15 on the morning of October 12, when a man armed with a gun entered and attempted to rob the proprietor, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported.
The constable, the CCN said, challenged the gunman and during a confrontation the intruder was fatally shot.
The constable, the CCN said, went outside and was shot by two of the gunman’s cronies, who were waiting in ambush. A newspaper contractor, who was purchasing fuel was also robbed and shot by the gunmen. The two escaped on foot, taking the constable’s service pistol with them.
The police were summoned and a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol, serial # TCK 6357, was taken from the policeman’s attacker.
The policeman and the newspaper contractor were admitted to hospital, where the constable died on Wednesday.
