Motorist fined $32,000; remanded for dangerous driving
TWENTY-TWO year-old Lloyd Bunting of Kintyre, Kingston 6, who used his vehicle to hit a policeman off his motor cycle was fined $32,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Traffic Court Monday.
Bunting, who was facing four charges, was fined $25,000 for operating without a road licence, $5,000 for not stopping after an accident and $2,000 for not having PPV insurance. He was remanded in custody on the fourth charge of dangerous driving.
The charges arose out of an incident which occurred in Papine Square about 8:30 am on Tuesday February 14.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that on the day in question Bunting, who was driving a grey Nissan Sunny motor car, was signalled to stop by Corporal Johnson of the Motorised Traffic Section.
The CCN said that instead of stopping, Bunting hit the policeman off his motorcycle and sped off into the nearby Kintyre community. Corporal Johnson sustained injuries and was treated at hospital.
Bunting was handed over to the police by relatives Monday and was immediately taken to court where he pleaded guilty to three of the charges and was remanded when he pleaded not guilty to the fourth charge. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 21.
Four charged with death of AIDS support worker
FOUR people were formally charged Monday in connection with the death of Jamaica Aids Support Unit employee Lenford Harvey, 30, of Duhaney Drive, Kingston 20.
Harvey, who was abducted from his home by gunmen was later found dead on Pinewood Terrace on Wednesday November 30.
Charged with murder, robbery and illegal possession of firearm are Andre West, 19, otherwise called “Dwayne” and Duane Owens, 23, while facing charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy to murder are Trishana Spence, 19, and a 16 year-old girl, all of Kingston 8.
The CCN said that at about 1:30 am on November 30, Harvey was at home when a group of gunmen barged into the premises and took him away. His body with gunshot wounds was found about 6:00 am on Pinewood Terrace. The police were called and the body removed to the morgue for post mortem.
Following weeks of intensive investigations the four were charged. They are scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court tomorrow.
Stolen gun recovered, youth arrested
A man has been arrested for breaching the Firearms Act, following the recovery of a stolen shotgun in Mansfield Heights, Ocho Rios, St Ann.
Charged with Illegal possession of firearm is Errol Carter, 20, otherwise called ‘Crab’ of Mansfield Heights.
The CCN’s St Ann liaison officer reported that about 9:00 am the Ocho Rios Police carried out an operation in the Mansfield area, where Carter, who was wanted for questioning, was seen and apprehended.
“Based on an interview it was revealed that he had knowledge of an incident in which a gun was robbed from its owner on Sunday. He subsequently took the police to a nearby cave where the weapon – a Winchester shotgun serial #C458242M – was retrieved.
