Spanish Town deserted as gangster laid to rest
Spanish Town resembled a ghost town yesterday as businesses and schools closed early, in fear of violent protests by mourners of slain leader of the One Order gang Andrew ‘Bun Man’ Hope, whose funeral service took place at the Phillippo Baptist Church in the old capital.
The security forces, however, took no chances and maintained a strong presence, taking up positions at strategic points near the shopping mall, bus terminus and market. “Everything is good so far, all is well,” one policeman said.
Few pedestrians lingered in the streets while some sidewalk vendors tried in vain to make last minute sales.
