THE University of Technology (UTech) says CaribbeanJobs.com is a welcome facility for tertiary graduates in Jamaica and the region, and a wonderful job-market tool for job seekers.

“The potential that CaribbeanJobs.com holds in the job-search market for our final year students is exciting, and we are pleased that they have participated in the Career Day Exposition at UTech. This is the first year that we have had on-line recruitment agencies participating in the Career Day Fair,” commented Dorrset Gabbidon-Pottinger, UTech’s career and placement officer, during the recent staging of the institution’s Career Exposition.

Noting that on-line recruitment holds a vast potential to all jobseekers, Gabbidon-Pottinger said “on-line job recruitment is an exciting addition to the choices our graduates now have”.

“I think on-line job recruitment is the way of the future and will be capping the job market in several countries, and I am glad CaribbeanJobs.com is exposing our students to the mechanics of hunting for jobs on-line as well as providing job opportunities,” she added.

CaribbeanJobs.com, which began operation in Jamaica and the rest of the region six months ago, is an online recruitment website that caters to job seekers as well as employers who have vacancies. The company will be investing US$5 million in expanding its business in the region.

Fionnuala Walsh, manager of CaribbeanJobs.com, expressed delight at the response of students, staff and fellow exhibitors towards the demonstrations and exhibits that her organisation had during the UTech Career Day Exposition.

“The responses were overwhelmingly positive. Basically, students got a chance to learn how easy and convenient it is to access our job-recruitment services. They got a chance to go on to the website and see first-hand what we offer,” Walsh noted.

David Barnwell, 32, a final year Computer Engineering student, said he learnt about CaribbeanJobs.com for the first time during his institution’s Career Day Exposition.

“There is potential for me in what CaribbeanJobs.com has to offer, as I want to explore job options in other countries like Cayman and Bahamas where there is a boom in employment opportunities in my field. I will be going on-line as well as utilising other job-hunting methods,” Barnwell said.

Second year Fashion Designing student, Nordel Stewart, 21, said he heard about CaribbeanJobs.com about a month ago, through the university’s Counselling Unit. “I like the ease and convenience that CaribbeanJobs.com offers job-seekers. When I am ready to hunt for jobs, I know that I can do it from the convenience of my home,” said Stewart.
