Man killed by cop after chopping woman to death
LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland – Damion Brown, 19, who yesterday fatally chopped Sasha-Kay Meyers, 18, near her home in the small community of Cottage, was later shot dead by the police.
According to the police, Sasha-Kay was walking home with her five-year-old brother when Brown struck her on the neck with his machete, leaving only a thin piece of skin holding her head to the rest of her body.
Police said that after killing Sasha-Kay, Brown, who fled the scene, was pursued by residents and two policemen, who cornered him in a canefield.
According to the police, Brown rushed at one of the officers with a machete. The policeman, a spokesman said, jumped out of the way and fired a shot in Brown’s direction, upon which Brown charged again. The policeman fired again, killing Brown.
“Di bway no value one bag a sugar or one bag a rice,” wailed Brown’s uncle, Arthur Sedley repeatedly.
Brown’s mother and sister, who lived just a stone’s throw away from Sasha-Kay’s home, had vacated the area.
Sasha-Kay’s mother, Paula Powell, who rushed home from her job at the Riu Tropical Hotel when she heard the awful news, lay on the bed in the dead girl’s room, crying as friends and family folded and packed away the clothes her daughter used to wear.
“She was a quiet girl, I don’t know what happen,” Powell told the Observer quietly. She said that she had left her daughter in bed after leaving for work yesterday.
