Former chief medical officer Barry Wint is dead
MEMBERS of the medical fraternity yesterday expressed sadness at the death of Dr Barry Wint, former chief medical officer at the Ministry of Health.
Dr Wint passed away Thursday night at the National Chest Hospital.
The Ministry of Health, in a statement yesterday, said Dr Wint was a medical stalwart whose contributions impacted greatly on health in Jamaica and the region.
At the same time, Dr Alverston Bailey, president of the Medical Association of Jamaica, described Dr Wint as a trailblazer in the development and implementation of world-renowned and innovative primary care and public health policies.
Rae Barrett, CEO, National Health Fund, said that Dr Wint “was a quiet giant who had a wealth of knowledge of public health issues in Jamaica and the Caribbean and was always willing to share his wisdom and valuable insight”.
For his part, Dr Kenneth Baugh, the Opposition shadow spokesperson on health, said Dr Wint’s exceptional leadership skills and professional work impacted the health services in Jamaica and the Caribbean tremendously.
