CAFFE to monitor campaign, election
LOCAL elections watchdog, Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE), says it will be monitoring the election campaign as well as the elections, to help preserve the integrity of the process and keep the elections fair and free from fear.
In the meantime, the group has expressed concern over what it says is the “political violence and indiscipline” that has affected the election campaign over recent days.
CAFFE said it supported recent calls made by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, Opposition Leader Bruce Golding and Political Ombudsman Bishop Herro Blair for the elimination of violence and indiscipline on the part of Jamaicans in the days leading up to the exercise.
“This must be applied to all aspects of the election campaign,” CAFFE said. In addition, it has called for a cessation of abusive and vulgar language from the campaign platform.
CAFFE also appealed to persons transporting ‘political enthusiasts’ to obey the rules of the road and not to break stop signs or ignore traffic lights.
