Autopsy shows Kool Runnings lifeguard died of cardiac respiratory failure
NEGRIL, Westmoreland – An autopsy on Monday confirmed that the 24-year-old Kool Runnings Water Park lifeguard, whose body was found in the pool suction on Saturday after he went missing last Wednesday, died as a result of cardiac respiratory failure, ruling out foul play as was earlier suggested by family members.
The body of Barrion Arthur, who hailed from Santoy district in Hanover, was found in a one-foot wide PVC pipe in the vicinity of the pump house at the Negril water park at approximately 3:00 pm on Saturday, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said. It was subsequently removed to the morgue where the post-mortem was carried out.
According to Inspector of Police in charge of crime for the Hanover police division, David Ebanks, the police have ruled out foul play following the autopsy results.
On Saturday, distraught residents suggested that Arthurs may have been murdered.
His body was discovered Saturday after a foul odour drew employees to the pool. A check of the suction room led to the discovery of his decaying body.
Firefighters worked assiduously for 16 hours to pump water from the pool to free Arthur’s body from the 25-thousand horse-power suction pipe in which it was fastened.
In the meantime, Arthur’s mother lamented that she experienced great difficulties from the operators of Kool Runnings Water Park company and the police when she begged to search the property as she felt her son was there.
