Gov’t names 5 for MOU evaluation committee
GOVERNMENT has named five representatives on the monitoring and evaluation committee of the public sector Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Those approved by the cabinet on Tuesday and announced at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet briefing at Jamaica House were Senator Dwight Nelson, Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service; Ruddy Spencer, Minister of Health and the Environment; Pearnel Charles, Minister of Labour and Social Security; Colin Bullock, Financial Secretary; and Dr Wesley Hughes, Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ).
Two more persons, representing the Solicitor General’s Office and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), are to be added to the government’s team. They will sit with a team from the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) to monitor the current agreement (MOU2) which covers wage and fringe benefits for civil servants up to March 2008.
The announcement was made at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet briefing at Jamaica House by Spencer.
Three members of the team – Spencer, Nelson and Charles – formed the leadership of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) up to recently.
The monitoring and evaluation committee has been part of the MOU process since 2004, and is primarily concerned with ensuring that the parties adhere to the spirit of the agreement and follow its main areas of agreement – restraint, macroeconomic management and development of the public sector.
