Duncan sworn in as East Hanover MP
DR DK Duncan was sworn in as the new Member of Parliament for Eastern Hanover at Tuesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives.
Dr Duncan was declared the winner of the seat by a slim 10-vote margin following a magisterial recount last Thursday, more than seven weeks after the September 3 general election.
The delay was due to a court battle between Duncan and outgoing JLP MP, Barrington Gray, who had been originally declared the winner by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) on the night of the polls.
Gray contended that a number of ballots rejected by the Resident Magistrate in the recount cost him the seat. He says he will be filing an election petition to overturn the magistrate’s decision.
