KINGSTON, Jamaica — Holland High’s Shanoya Douglas was impressive in qualifying for Wednesday’s semi-finals of the Class 1 girls 100m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium, winning her first round race in 11.85 seconds (0.7m/s).

Douglas, who ran a personal best 11.06 seconds two weeks ago at the Carifta Trials, the fastest time in the world by any female so far, got out of the blocks well and was able to shut off the engines midway through the race and cruise home.

Hydel High’s Shemonique Hazle was the fastest in the qualification, running a wind-aided 11.44 seconds (2.3m/s), beating Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s Girls who ran 11.66 seconds. Penwood High’s Shakeya Reid also impressed with 11.67 seconds (1.4m/s) while Edwin Allen’s Renecia Edwards— 11.79 seconds (1.6m/s) and Alexxe Henry— 11.94 seconds (-0.4m/s) also made progress.

COCAA Western Champs sprint double champion Giana Murray of Mt Alvernia High ran 11.69 seconds (-0.6m/s) to lead the Class 2 qualifying ahead of the St Jago High pair of Adora Campbell— 11.74 seconds (0.0m/s) and Shannia Campbell— 11.75 seconds (0/7m/s).

Azaria Harris of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy leads the Class 3 qualifying with 11.67 seconds (-0.6m/s), ahead of Ferncourt High’s Rihanna Scott— 11.83 seconds and the Edwin Allen High pair of Andriana Pine—11.88 seconds (-0.1m/s) and Danelia Clarke— 11.90 seconds (1.0m/s).

Danae Bartley of Vere Technical — 11.97 seconds (0.2m/s) and Mt Alvernia High’s Veneisha Pottinger— 12.01 seconds are also through.

Excelsior High’s Brianna Gray was fastest in Class 4 qualifying with 12.27 seconds (0.8m/s) and was followed by the Vere Technical pair of Brianna King — 12.30 seconds and Omeikia Shepherd—12.33 seconds.

Edwin Allen High’s Monique Bogle ran 12.35 seconds, and her teammate Shantwae Green, who ran a wind-aided 12.39 seconds (2.2m/s), also made progress.
