Heavy rains affect NWC treatment facilities
THE National Water Commission (NWC) yesterday said heavy siltation and high turbidity caused by persistent rains over the weekend have rendered several of its water treatment facilities islandwide inoperable.
“Major plants such as the Spanish Town Treatment Plant in St Catherine that is essential to ensure service to communities as far as Kingston and St Andrew are currently out of operation,” the company said in a release yesterday.
The affected facilities, the NWC said, include Ulster Spring and Sherwood in Trelawny, Siloah in St Elizabeth, Pottinger Springs, White River in St Mary and Windsor Castle and Craig Mill in Portland.
Yesterday, the water company said it would truck water to the affected customers and urged them to call its Call Centre at 1-888-CALL-NWC (1-888-225-5692) for emergency support and updates.
