JLP politician questioned about alleged contract killing
LENNOX Hinds, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) politician arrested Tuesday on murder, conspiracy to murder and shooting charges, was yesterday questioned about an alleged contract to kill persons seen removing posters and green flags during the parish council election campaign last December.
One man who was caught removing one of the JLP posters was shot dead. He was said to be a supporter of the Opposition People’s National Party.
Hinds, who unsuccessfully contested the Edgewater Division in Portmore, St Catherine for the JLP in the election, was yesterday interrogated by homicide detectives in the presence of his lawyer, Michael Deans, at the head office of the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT) in Kingston.
According to Deputy Superintendent Trevor Grant, head of the MIT, the man who was shot was among a group of men seen removing posters and green flags which had been put up by Hinds’ supporters in his division.
Hinds was arrested at his Portmore home about noon on Tuesday during an operation by officers from the MIT and the Flying Squad.
