Lorne Campbell on the comeback
MONTEGO BAY, St James
Former Herbert Morrison High Boys Champs 110m hurdles gold medalist Lorne Campbell is on the comeback after being sidelined by hamstring problems.
The 23-year-old who won the Class 1 110m hurdles at the 2004 Boys Championships before moving onto the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Hi-performance Centre in Kingston, competed at last Saturday’s County of Cornwall Athletics Association’s Distance, Field and Hurdles meet at Cornwall College.
Campbell, who sat out most of last year with the injury, easily won a 110m hurdles race, running “just for time” against high school runners.
The meet was poorly attended with just 14 schools turning up but saw some creditable performances including a discuss/shot put double from Herbert Morrison’s Lisa Grant.
Grant won the Class 1 discuss with a throw of 29.44m and the Shot Put Open with 10.45m.
St Elizabeth Technical’s Rushell Reid won the Class 2 high jump with 1.63m ahead of CARIFTA Games Under 17 champion Peter-gay Reid’s 1.60m.
Frome Technical’s Stephanie Barrett took the Class 3 1500m in 5:10.7 seconds while Mt Alvernia High’s Sameisha Green won the 400m hurdles in 1:05.8 seconds.
In the boys section, Herbert Morrison’s Odario Hines won the Class 3 long jump in 5.87m, Steths’ Jermaine Wright took the Class 2 event in 6.2m while Cornwall College’s Garett Kerr won the Class 1 110m hurdles in 15.3 seconds.
