Red Brigade march past St George’s

Boys’ Town…………………..2

Campbell (55th), Scott (79th)

St George’s……………..1

Dean (88th)

A beautiful solo goal from captain Michael Campbell and a well-taken strike by veteran Robert ‘Bunny’ Scott saw Boys’ Town to a 2-1 win over St George’s at the Collie Smith Sports Complex in the Digicel Premier League (DPL) yesterday.

Hellilide Dean scored a consolation two minutes from time, but the three points deservedly went to the home team who dominated the game and could have won by a larger margin.

The win kept the Andrew Price-coached team third with 46 points, four behind joint-leaders Harbour View and Portmore who had late games yesterday.

The hosts were always the better team from the opening whistle but wasted good opportunities through Garfield Gillespie and Xavian Virgo.

However, it was captain Campbell who had the easiest chance to put the home team ahead, but he redirected Peter Keyes’ cross wide of the goal from three yards.

Five minutes after the break Campbell made amends when he weaved his way by four St George’s players before firing a low shot to Anthoniel Williams in goal.

Minutes later Campbell was again presented with another goal, but he could not finish from six yards after a patient build-up from Gillespie and veteran Oneil McDonald.

Another veteran, Scott made it 2-0 with his third touch a minute after coming off the bench. The midfielder latched on to a loose ball on top of the area and struck a sweet left-footer shot past a hapless Williams in the 79th minute.

The home team continued to waste good scoring chances, as St George’s picked up their game towards the end of the match, and with two minutes remaining, Daniel Shaw’s goal-bound volley deflected off Dean and into Philmore Crumbie’s goal.

St George’s coach Geoffrey Maxwell conceded that Boys’ Town were better on the day, but pointed to the fact that he was missing six starters through injury.

Teams:

Boys’ Town – Philmore Crumbie, Fabian Watkins, Carlos Wright, Xavian Virgo, Garfield Gillespie, Michael Campbell, Nathan Wyatt (Ziecko Herrera (87th), Oneil McDonald, Peter Keyes (Kemar Peterkin 64th), Daemeon Benjamin, Andre Wheeler (Robert Scott 78th).

Subs not used: G Simpson, A Samuels, K Porter, J Bailey.
