We are Jamaicans… Not PNP or JLP
Whether you voted or not, your member of parliament is there to serve you.
Once you live in the constituency, the MP is your political representative and you have the right to
make certain demands of him/her.
Although, quite arguably, some people expect too much from their MPs, in the Jamaican context their roles are unclear, particularly since they have no known job descriptions. Over the next few months, the Sunday Observer will be visiting all 60 constituencies and asking Jamaicans to rate their MPs in our “We are Jamaicans” series.
Mr Shaw,
Following lengthy discussions with residents in your constituency, Manchester North East, these four concerns below emerged as the most pressing.
1. Many farmers say they want financial assistance to set up their own greenhouse.
2. Residents throughout the constituency want to see skills training centres established, particularly for the hundreds of unemployed young people.
3. Residents in some communities say they need to have piped water in their homes.
4. Farmers want steady markets for their produce and want for you to have the ban enforced on the importation of produce that they can grow.
Yours sincerely,
Ingrid Brown (Sunday Observer senior staff reporter)
