Sandals Foundation Improving the environment one tree at a time
THE Sandals Foundation, as part of its ongoing commitment to improving the environment, has facilitated the planting of a large number of trees in schools and sections of St Ann and St Mary.
Managers and team members at the Sandals and Beaches resorts in that region – Sandals Dunn’s River, Beaches Boscobel and Sandals Grande Ocho Rios – planted fruit trees at their adopted schools and also at the Dunn’s River watershed.
Schools that benefited from the tree planting included Stewart Town and Great Pond basic schools, and Steer Town Junior High.
Brian Roper, general manager of Sandals Grande Ocho Rios, was on hand to be a part of the event and stressed the importance of it. He also noted his pleasure over Sandals Foundation’s commitment to the environment.
Ian Spencer, regional public relations manager, added that education, community and environment were the three pillars of the Sandals Foundation. He said that a large number of team members had a passion for the preservation of the environment and said that tree planting was one way for them to show it.
“We work very closely with the Forestry Department and RADA (Rural Agriculture Development Agency) in spreading the message and in our community affairs,” noted Spencer in a release to the media.
