Hoopers eye consecutive double wins
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Joint leaders Hoopers is eyeing back-to-back double wins this weekend as the Flow National Basketball League-West continues with double-headers at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Hoopers who along with Granville Jaguars won two games as the league opened last weekend will play Catherine Hall All-stars in the second game on Saturday and take on Granville in the first game a day later.
Hoopers and Granville Jaguars are tied in first place on four points, followed by Sav Hawks on two while Inner-city Avalanche and All-Stars are next on one point each.
Inner-city Avalanche and Hawks will seek their first win when they meet in the first game on Saturday, starting at 6:00 pm while they will face Catherine Hall in the second game on Sunday.
Last weekend Hoopers had wins over Inner-city Avalanche (81-54) on Saturday and Sav Hawks (98-44) on Sunday, while Granville Jaguars beat Sav Hawks 70-47 on Saturday then beat Catherine Hall All-Stars 62-54 in overtime Sunday.
The Jaguars vs All-stars game was the most competitive of the weekend as it took extra time to decide the winners.
The teams were tied 8-all after the first period and 23-all at half-time before All-Stars edge ahead by four points, 38-34 after the third quarter.
Jaguars came back in the fourth quarter to tie the scores, forcing extra time where they dominated winning the fifth period 12-4.
Two players had double-doubles for Jaguars, Huwayne Blake scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds and Leroy Lawrence scored 13 points and had 17 rebounds while Dave Black scored 12 points.
Lawrence was scoring his second double-double of the weekend after having 13 points and 11 rebounds against Sav Hawks.
Black also scored 13 points for Granville while Blake scored 12 points against Terrence Tate’s 17 points for the losers.
